Tanium patch module deployed to MWS machines

Posted 29/05/2024

IT Services is introducing a patch module within the new Tanium platform.

A patch is a modification to a programme to improve its security, performance, or other feature. A patch is sometimes referred to as a 'bug fix' since a reason for a patch is an imperfection that is discovered by Tanium.

We will commence the rollout to Managed Windows Service (MWS) devices from Thursday 30 May 2024

The Tanium platform and the patch module allows IT Services to respond rapidly to cyber threats with real-time visibility and control.

What impact will I see?

If an imperfection or bug is detected by Tanium, then a patch will be applied to the endpoint (computer) resulting in a pop-up notification asking the end user to restart their computer (see below):

What do I need to do?

Unless you get the notification above, no action is required of users at this point.

If you do receive the notification, then you will have the option to:

  • Restart your computer immediately by clicking ‘Restart’, or
  • Postpone the restart for five days by clicking ‘Postpone’
If you have any queries about this software, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the IT Service Desk.
